I Am From

I AM FROM

I am from the city of Champs,
where the Clam Chowdah is popular,
I am from the city where the sports fans go hard in the paint,
where the Charles River starts from Hopkinton and it ends at the Harbor,
I am from Boston, but am I really from Boston?
I was born in Boston but those make me from Boston?
I am from an island in the Caribbean,
Were the Puerto Rican flag represents our pride,
My parents are from that island, and my parents conceived me,
I carry their blood so it makes me a part of them,
So I am from were they came from,
They taught me the heritage and spoke about their parents struggles,
My mom died when I was ten and my pops worked two jobs,
So I grew up in the streets those that make me from the school of hard knocks,
I don't know where I am from,
I guess Yo soy de adonde mi hogar esta.

I'm From Me

I'm from where the streets mean to be mean,
to live life til your hearts bleed.
I'm from the last block in Roxbury, where the thugs
are bugs and the G's scream.
I'm from the first floor of the fiends, who live all day
shooting up and the fire alarm yell, waking up my daughter before  i leave.
I'm from here and there like the plastic bag that flows in the wind, and lands in the pool where the lady was found dead on her knees.

I'm from a small place called "HOME" that i share and clean with my BM even though we don't always agree.
I'm from white rice and Spanish beans to red kool-aid and icy treats.
I'm from tattoos and piercings to diaper changing and feeding, not to myself but for my teen who isn't even three.
I'm Puerto Rico, Arroyo and Rio Grande.
I'm from the "BEAN", all day is a fun day, just once a day never everyday.
I'm from where my feelings never get heard due to guns screams and kids fleeing.
I'm from "ME".

Where I'm From

"Where I'm From" by Stephanie P.

I am from the everyday sirens from the live streets of Dorchesterand the loud neighbors.I am from the dusty backyardwith no grass and toys thrown around.I am from the home sick feeling wheni'm far away from my mother'sperfume scent.

I am from the do's and don't
the don't give up, you'll do just fine
and the tender hugs to keep me safe.

I am from laughter and food
the tree picking fruits and the
sweet smell of plantains that keeps
my stomach full.

I am from imagination where i
use it to escape from pain
And even if i'm an adult i would
still use my imagination for freedom
and complete positive fate.
