All-Consuming Emotions

I think Mary Maloney does not have a mental illness. She was upset at the fact her husband was leaving her, and she was being so nice to him after he just told her this horrible news. Then after he tells her the news, she still keeps her cool and wants to make him something to eat and act like nothing happened. Her husband, Patrick, did not want to pretend that everything was alright and announced that he was “going out”. So her emotions completely consumed her. Maybe didn’t think she would kill him, but I believe it was an instant reaction and that was the closet item she had near her. She was so upset and just hit him with the leg of lamb. It is kind of crazy that she killed him and continued on with her day. By going to the grocery store, coming back home, and playing as if she were coming home to find her husband dead, she knew what she was doing.  She made it look like someone else killed him; she knew she did something wrong because she asked her self what would happen to a wife of a police detective that has committed a murder to her own detective husband. She did what she had to do which was to plot and plan to keep her out of trouble.
